Counsellor of the Russian Embassy in the Lebanese capital Beirut Dmitry Lebedev told RT about the situation in the city after a powerful explosion.
“After a powerful explosion that occurred in Beirut seaport, all the online services started to liquidate the [consequences],” said Lebedev. According to him, local authorities do not provide accurate information concerning deaths or injuries.
Also the Russian Embassy is engaged in clarifying the fate of Russian citizens in the territory of Lebanon. “While there is no absolute accuracy regarding the causes of the incident,” — said Lebedev.
Earlier it became known that the explosion in the port of the Lebanese capital Beirut has damaged the building of the Russian Embassy. The blast damaged the facade of the building.
On 4 August at the port of Beirut blew up the ship with fireworks. The incident on video filmed by eyewitnesses. According to them, the blast demolished an apartment block near the scene of an emergency. According to TV channel Al Mayadeen, the explosion injured hundreds of people. The head of the Lebanese security General Abbas Ibrahim announced that the cause of the explosion could be stored explosives.
