The Red Cross will not publish the names of Azovstal defenders/Channel 24 collage
The International Committee of the Red Cross will not publicly publish information about Ukrainian defenders evacuated from Azovstal. And the families of soldiers will be able to send a request for information.
The priority of the ICRC is to check the conditions of detention of prisoners of war
This was stated by the representative of the Red Cross Mirella Hodeib. She stressed that information about the number and personal data of Ukrainian soldiers withdrawn from Azovstal will remain confidential.
The representative of the organization avoided the question of how many Ukrainian soldiers withdrawn from Azovstal, including the wounded, were registered by the Red Cross .
This information is confidential. Our priority is to check the conditions of detention and treatment of prisoners of war, prevent disappearance and maintain their connection with their families. But we will not publish lists or names of people we have visited or those we will visit in the future, Hodeib said.
The ICRC spokeswoman noted that the registration of prisoners of war by the organization allows them “to feel protected at least from the risk of disappearing without a trace.”
At the same time, members of the families of the military who were withdrawn from Azovstal can find out from the ICRC whether they have been registered by the organization.
