The Verkhovna Rada condemned the Russian occupation of the Kuriles
The appeal was created by the Verkhovna Rada in order to:
- prevent tolerance of issues related to the occupation;
- attract attention at the international level to support the sovereign territories of Japan;
< li>and speed up the actual implementation of the agreements in 1956.
The draft appeal proposes to determine that the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine declares support for the position of Japan in relation to its Northern Territories, the explanatory note of the draft resolution says.
In addition, the documents say that the territories of the Kuril Islands are under occupation Russia.
Our deputies called on the international community to continue taking all possible measures to legally formalize the status of the Northern Territories of Japan.
The Verkhovna Rada appealed to the NGO, the European Parliament, PACE, the OSCE PA, the Parliamentary Assembly of GUAM, national parliaments of foreign countries of the world on consistent support and response to the settlement of the status of the Northern Territories of Japan.
It should be recalled that the USSR illegally occupied the Northern Territories of Japan back in 1945, and then carried out the deportation of the Japanese population.
It should be remembered that although in 1956 in a joint declaration of the USSR and Japan it was noted that the Soviet Union after the conclusion of the peace treaty, he agreed to transfer the islands of Habomai and Shikotan to Japan.
However, so far Russia, as the “successor of the USSR,” has not fulfilled its obligations.
