Under the new sanctions of the European Union fell 48 people and 9 organizations responsible for actions that undermine or pose a threat to the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. Among them are many of those persons whom the invaders appointed to lead the occupied territories.
Aleksandr Yuryevich Kobets also fell under the sanctions. It was his captors who appointed the mayor of Kherson after the capture of the city.
Unlike Oleksandr Saldo, to whom the invaders “entrusted” the entire Kherson region, there was little information about Kobets. He does not appear at public events, does not record videos. Because of this, there was even confusion, because some wrote that the candidate for deputy of the Kherson city council from the party “Voice” Alexander Dmitrievich Kobets became the new Gauleiter of Kherson. But these are different personalities.
Later, journalists found that Alexander Yuryevich Kobets was a former KGB and SBU agent. He was born in Kherson, where he lived longer. Later he moved to Kyiv, where he did business. He also worked in various companies where he was involved in internal security.
Over the previous 5 years, from April 27, 2017 to April 27, 2022, Kobets traveled from Ukraine abroad 22 times. Most of these trips he made directly to Russia and Belarus. In particular, Kobets flew to Minsk in 2019. And traveled by train and car to Russia in 2018.
After the Russian invasion, he fled Kyiv on March 7th. On March 15, 2022, Kobets left the country through the Uzhgorod checkpoint. And already on April 26, 2022, it became known about his “appointment” as the “mayor” of Kherson.
