Slovak President Peter Pellegrini welcomed the US decision to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense. However, at the same time, he complains that his country may not have enough installations.

Pellegrini said that for his country, as a member of the Eastern wing of NATO, the air defense link is very important. It is worth pointing out that Slovakia does not have its own modern air defense systems.

Slovakia and air defense systems

The President of Slovakia announced that at the NATO summit he will talk about “what are the capabilities of the US and European defense industry as a whole to be able to implement plans for a common defense of the eastern flank by air defense.”

A few more air defense units for Ukraine means that NATO member countries will not have enough of them, and Slovakia will likely be left without effective air defense, the Slovak pointed out President.

However, he indicated that Slovakia would participate in the overall $40 billion NATO package for Ukraine. Also, as Pellegrini noted, his country “supports Ukraine’s maximum efforts in integrating into the EU and will provide all its know-how so that there is peace in Ukraine and the war ends

By the way, Pellegrini recently stated that Bratislava is helping Kyiv, in particular by increasing the production of ammunition and cannon barrels at Slovak defense factories. In addition, the country promises to increase electricity supplies in the fall and winter.
