On June 16, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi and Romanian President Klaus Iohannis arrived in Kyiv. These leaders can influence the positions of the entire European Union.

Oleg Sahakyan, a political scientist, told Channel 24 about this. According to him, this is an important visit for Ukraine.

Sahakyan emphasized that the key message of European leaders is that all these countries support Ukraine's candidacy for EU membership

“The visit of the leaders means that they agreed on this support among themselves. The visit is also important for its symbolism. It means large-scale support for Ukraine by key European countries,” the expert stressed.

In his opinion, Paris and Berlin wanted to show that they are the decision-making center in Europe. This is actually a counterbalance to the statements of Britain, which constantly supports Ukraine.

Sahakyan noted that everyone remained with their positives – Scholz, Macron, Draghi and Iohannis found their internal political electoral points, and Ukraine received symbolic support.

From these European politicians, Ukraine received a clear statement of support for Ukraine's candidacy for EU membership. I think that in the near future Ukraine will see, in particular, a change in the position of the Netherlands and Denmark in support. – he said.

The expert added that although Germany's influence on these countries is not formally declared anywhere, it is present.

Emmanuel Macron, Olaf Scholz and Mario Draghi testified in Kyiv that they support granting Ukraine candidate EU membership status. The same position is taken by Romania, whose President Klaus Iohannis joined the visit.

At the same time, Denmark and the Netherlands recently opposed Ukraine's candidacy for EU membership.

That's why President Volodymyr Zelensky asked Dutch prime ministers Rutte: “If you think there is no place for us in the EU, then you should say it clearly.”
