The head of the Catholic Church, Pope Francis, once again put an equal sign between Russians and Ukrainians – that is, between aggressors and victims. He stated that it is necessary to pray for the mothers of both states, because they lost the children of those soldiers in the war.
The Pontiff has repeatedly called on Kyiv and Moscow to sit down at the negotiating table, ignoring Ukraine's position regarding the possibility of dialogue only when all Russian occupiers leave the territory of our state. On Sunday, January 8, at the end of the Angel of the Lord prayer, he remembered the mothers of Ukrainian and Russian soldiers, equating them.
Why such rhetoric is dangerous
This situation obviously indicates that the Pope of Rome has certain memory problems, because he constantly forgets that Russia is the aggressor, and Ukraine is the victim in this war. Actually, the deaths of tens of thousands of people from at least February 24 are on the shoulders of the Kremlin and, in particular, those mothers who blessed their sons to kill Ukrainians.
By blurring the line between victim and executioner, Francis is actually playing along with the terrorist state, Putin and all Kremlin politicians who want blood.
The Pope prays for Ukrainian and Russian mothers who lost their children in the war. He asks everyone not to forget to pray for them, for all the martyrs and for an end to the war,” the Vatican’s official page says.
However, in fairness, it is worth saying that during his speech, the head of the Catholic Church asked everyone to remember “brothers and sisters in Ukraine”, where the war continues, despite the Christmas holidays.
Therefore, all the same, you should probably not lose hope that the pontiff will someday call everything by its proper name and state “Russia attacked Ukraine, only Russia can end the war when it withdraws its troops.” However, this has not yet happened.
Christmas “truce” from Putin
To this topic, we recall that together with the Pope, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin is fighting for the “honorary” title of the greatest “peacemaker”. On the eve of Christmas Eve and Christmas, according to the Julian calendar, he said that a ceasefire was needed on the front line.
However, later it turned out once again that the Kremlin did not keep its promises. The invaders continued to shell Ukrainian cities, despite the statements of the Kremlin.
