Russian propaganda decided to brag about the downed Ukrainian plane, allegedly carrying weapons from Western partners. However, no plane was shot down.
On April 16, a representative of the Russian Ministry of Defense reported that a Ukrainian military transport plane was allegedly shot down near Odessa, delivering a large batch of weapons supplied to Ukraine by Western countries. Although this message was a fake, it was immediately picked up by the Russian state media, which began to be massively replicated. They could not provide any evidence of such destruction.
The Ukrainian side had no choice but to refute this fake. Neither the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine nor the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate Kirill Budanov confirmed this information. And even the Odesa OVA denied this fake.
The Pentagon also denied this information.
“I have not seen reports indicating that Western weapons were shot down by the Russians. I have nothing known about this and I have not seen anything about it. There is no indication that they have hit the content of the aid, “said a US Department of Defense official at a closed briefing on April 18.
