The Pentagon has confirmed the movement of some Russian troops from the territory of Ukraine to the Kursk region of the Russian Federation.

At the same time, the US White House also confirmed the transfer of Russian troops from Ukraine to the Kursk region.

White House National Security Communications Advisor John Kirby announced this during a briefing on August 15.

Kirby noted that the US is seeing that some Russian units have been redirected from operations in and around Ukraine to the Kursk area.

According to him the US does not yet know the exact number of Russian units or their intentions.

“All I can tell you is that we have seen some units being redirected and heading to the area. But it is not yet clear how many will ultimately arrive or what their military mission will be,” the White House spokesman said.

Kirby also added that the US is closely monitoring the situation, but cannot yet say exactly what Putin plans to do.

The White House spokesman noted that due to the Ukrainian Armed Forces operation in the Kursk region, Putin is faced with the dilemma of strengthening his defenses in the region.
