Balakliya became one of the first settlements that liberated Ukrainian troops as part of the counteroffensive in the Kharkiv region. On September 8, they were completely liberated from the invaders.
Unique footage of the dismissal of Balakliya in the Kharkiv region was published by the Kraken special unit. The video shows how our defenders carried out an operation to return the city under the control of Ukraine.
How Balakliya was fired
Balakliya has been in Kharkiv region since March 2 under Russian occupation. The mayor of the city, Ivan Stolbovoy, betrayed Ukraine, went over to the side of the enemy, and moved to Russia with his family.
After a six-month occupation, the Ukrainian flag returned to the city, and this was the beginning of a large-scale counteroffensive of Ukrainian troops, in which about 400 settlements were liberated.
It should be noted that 5 years before the invasion of Balakleya, a large-scale disaster occurred – ammunition depots exploded. Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Oleksiy Danilov stated that the responsibility for this incident, as well as for other similar disasters, lies with Russia.

The main thing about the counter-offensive in the Kharkiv region
In the first half of September, Ukrainian troops launched a powerful counteroffensive in the Kharkiv region, in which they liberated most of the occupied territory of the region. Now the left bank of the Oskol River remains under occupation. However, on September 26, our defenders announced the dismissal of Kupyansk-Uzlovy, which is located on the left bank.
As part of the counteroffensive, Ukraine returned hundreds of settlements, including Izyum and Kupyansk and Volchansk. Kupyansk was an important logistics center for infidels and became the center of the occupied territory, which, after the start of the counteroffensive, was moved to Volchansk.
Izyum is the largest city liberated by Ukrainian troops on September 26. However, the invaders inflicted serious destruction on the city, and more than 400 graves were found in the forest. Among those buried there were many civilians tortured by the occupiers. Also, a photo of the hand of the exhumed body, on which there was a blue-yellow ribbon, spread around the world – this is the hand of a serviceman Sergei Sova, who defended Izyum in April. By presidential decree, he was awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine posthumously.
