EU countries should step up efforts to provide Ukraine with more electricity production capacity.
This was stated at the meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council on July 22 by the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign and Security Policy, Josep Borrell.
Energy of Ukraine — Borrell position
According to the politician, the situation in Ukraine with energy capacities is extremely difficult, and now it’s only summer. One can imagine, Borrell noted, what a challenge the Ukrainian people will face in winter.
Now watching
—Putin wants to plunge Ukraine into darkness and cold. That is why the next two to three months will be decisive. We have no time to wait for winter to come. I have asked ministers to begin mobilizing now to provide Ukraine with more electricity generation capacity, — the diplomat emphasized.
Borrell added that contributions to the fund to support its energy sector will provide tangible assistance to Ukraine.
Following the results of his speech, he summarized that Moscow continues to attack the critical infrastructure of Ukraine, which means that Kyiv’s partners should strengthen its air defense.
