The Dutch Embassy in Moscow has stopped issuing visas to Russians. This decision was made due to the lack of diplomats.
Russia expelled some of the latter from the country. In particular, Moscow took this decision as a response to the expulsion of Russian diplomats.
Russians will not be able to get a visa to the Netherlands
From Wednesday (April 27 – Channel 24) Russian citizens can no longer apply for a visa to the Netherlands at the Dutch Embassy in Moscow. This is not a punitive measure, but a consequence of the decision of the Russian government to expel 15 Dutch diplomats from the country, the Dutch Foreign Ministry said.
They assured that there are so few Dutch diplomats in Russia that they simply cannot deal with issuing visas for Russians and run the embassy's consular department at full capacity.
“Therefore, short-stay visas can no longer be issued. Exceptions are possible for serious humanitarian reasons. For example, if someone has to leave the country for political reasons,” – reported in the department.
In addition, according to the country's Foreign Ministry, an average of 150 Russians apply for a visa for a short stay in the Netherlands every week. They also added that:
- it is not known how long this measure will be in effect;
- The Consular Section operates with limited capacity, but the embassy is open for integration documents and other issues.

What preceded this
- On March 29, the Netherlands announced the expulsion of 17 Russian diplomats. The government has stressed that their continued presence poses a threat to national security.
- The country said the diplomats are suspected of espionage. Therefore, such a decision was made for the security of their own country. Including against the background of the war between Russia and Ukraine.
- Finally, out of 75 accredited Russian diplomats, 58 remained.
- In response, Russia also expelled Dutch diplomats, which partially blocked the work of the Dutch embassy in Moscow.
