The Dutch armed forces are sending five F-16 fighter jets to Fetesti air base in Romania on Tuesday to train Ukrainian pilots.
This was announced by the head of the Dutch Ministry of Defense , Kaisa Ollongren, on the social network X (formerly Twitter).
— Five Dutch F-16s are leaving today for the Fetesti air base in Romania. An F-16 training center will soon open there to train pilots from both NATO countries and Ukraine, Ollongren wrote.
These F-16 fighters will be the first that the Netherlands sends to train Ukrainian pilots.
According to the Kingdom's Ministry of Defense, in total, Amsterdam will allocate from 12 to 18 fighters for training.

In September, Ollongren stated that in the spring of 2024, Ukraine would be able to receive the first F-16 fighters. She noted that it is unknown how long pilot training will last, but the Dutch Ministry of Defense believes that it could take up to six to eight months.
