< p _ngcontent-sc148="" class="news-annotation">On Wednesday, February 15, it became known that Denmark and the Netherlands refused to supply Ukraine with Leopard 2, despite their promises. However, subsequently the Netherlands reported that they “changed their mind” again.
This was announced by the Minister of Defense of the country, Kaisa Ollongren. According to her, the Netherlands will supply Ukraine with ammunition for Leopard 2 tanks.
How much ammunition to expect from the Netherlands
The country's government has not yet commented on the amount of the allowance . However, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said that the Dutch contribution consists of 20,000 ammunition.
They note that the Netherlands does not have its own tanks, but wants to contribute in other ways.
This is very important. It makes no sense to just deliver the tank. We must provide the complete package. In addition to training Ukrainian soldiers, there is a need for ammunition and spare parts. In the tank coalition, the Netherlands is the only country that does not have tanks, but we have offered training assistance in addition to ammunition and spare parts. Together we can provide what Ukraine needs,” Ollongren said.
By the way, Germany and Poland have already begun to teach Ukrainian fighters to master Leopard 2 battle tanks.
NATO plans to form a tank brigade for Ukraine
- Polish President Andrzej Duda said that as part of allied activities, Challenger tanks from Great Britain, Leopard 2 tanks from Canada, Poland and Germany are now being delivered to Ukraine.
- “We want to at least assemble a tank brigade for Ukraine. We hope that we may be able to form several brigades,” said Duda.
- Polish Minister of Defense Mariusz Blaszczak said that Poland, Norway, Canada, Spain and Finland together were able to complete a battalion of Leopard 2A4 tanks.
- It should be noted that NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg reported that the war in Ukraine was depleting ammunition stocks. The level of use of shells is now above the level of production.
- Consequently, NATO will ask its members to increase the stockpiles of ammunition, which are severely depleted by the war in Ukraine.
