At the anniversary NATO summit in Washington, the Alliance member countries again raised the issue of Ukraine's membership. Their statement says that NATO will continue to support our country on its “irreversible path to full Euro-Atlantic integration.”

The summit also noted that “there are no alternatives to Ukraine's full membership in NATO.” Oleh Dunda, a member of parliament of the Servant of the People party, recalled this in a conversation with Channel 24, noting that a week before the start of this event there was no hope that Ukraine would receive such support from the Alliance.

NATO Needs Changes

However, according to him, two days before the meeting of the Alliance member states, everything changed.

It is very good that such changes have occurred and this political decision was made, in accordance with which NATO will now move, – the people's deputy emphasized.

At the same time, in his opinion, further progress in this direction depends on Ukraine and our desire to join the Alliance. We all have six months to resolve all necessary issues.

In addition, NATO is also going through some difficult times now, because in the form in which it exists now, it does not meet the challenges of today. The Alliance requires major changes, because the world we knew before 2022 has been destroyed, and the old rules of global security no longer work, Dunda emphasized.

However, the issue is that our partners in the West do not have a vision of what changes are needed for NATO. They realize that the global security system, particularly in Europe, which is based on one state, is very risky. It does not solve the problem and does not reduce the security risks that existed.

“This is evidenced by the situation in the Middle East, on the African continent, where US bases are being withdrawn from the territories of certain countries, as well as the statements of the “blogger from Novoogarevo” (Vladimir Putin – Channel 24), who says that there should be no “United States military bases” in Eurasia at all, he noted.

Ukraine can become a regional leader

In this situation, NATO needs to look for regional leader countries around which other states can unite. And the US will provide them a “nuclear umbrella”. Only through such regional blocs can we guarantee future global security,

“In this sense, Ukraine, which has won with its blood and victory the right to advise or make demands, must offer its partners from NATO countries our vision of the structure of global security. Our country is the only one around which others can unite on the basis of security,” Oleg Dunda is sure.
