The Ministry of Internal Affairs will verify information from journalists’ investigation that thousands of CCTV cameras in Ukraine could transmit data to servers in Russia for years.

This was stated by the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Igor Klimenko on air of the national information telethon Unified News, commenting on the investigation of journalists of the Radio Liberty Schemes project. According to him, this requires careful research and study.

— This is a question not only for the special services. This is a question for the utility companies that installed these cameras. Of course, this is unacceptable when any camera, even hypothetically, can be connected and transmit information during a war to any country, — emphasized the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Klimenko noted that representatives of military administrations will also be involved in the comprehensive verification. According to him, the Ministry of Internal Affairs has a lot of work to do with the relevant technical staff of the VA in order to give a general answer on the protection of information from video cameras.

The head of the department claims that there are no such vulnerabilities in the monitoring systems of the Ministry of Internal Affairs on highways and other devices.

The minister said that the comprehensive information protection system in the Ministry of Internal Affairs is quite reliable, so technical workers assure that it is impossible to leak data to any server in another country.

Schemes journalists together with cybersecurity specialists conducted an experiment. Based on its results, it became known that videos from thousands of CCTV cameras throughout Ukraine ended up on servers in Moscow and belonged to companies with connections to the Russian FSB.

According to journalists, this is happening with the help of Russian TRASSIR software, which was widely used before the start of a full-scale invasion. These videos, before reaching the consumer’s phone or computer, are sent to Russian servers.
