The Ministry of Education and Science has approved new regional coefficients for competitive scores for admission: what will change for applicants

The regional coefficient influences the calculation of the competitive score, so the final result may change depending on the region in which the selected university is located.

Read our article to find out what the new regional coefficients are and how they affect admission.

Regional coefficients for admission: MES approved new multipliers

According to the amendments made to The procedure for admission to study for higher education in 2025, this year will take into account new regional coefficients for admission to universities – these are special multipliers that can slightly increase the competitive score.

New regional coefficients of competitive score for admission are applied:

  • when applying for a bachelor's degree;
  • when applying for a master's degree in medicine, pharmacy or veterinary science.

The principle of operation is simple: if you apply to an institution that is located in a certain area, the competitive score is multiplied by the appropriate coefficient.

This is done to encourage applicants to enroll not only in universities in Kyiv and large cities, but also in universities in the regions.

MES: regional coefficients for admission in 2025

1.07 — for universities in:

  • Zaporizhia region;
  • Nikolaev region;
  • Odessa region;
  • Sumy region;
  • Kharkiv region.

1.04 — for universities in:

  • Dnepropetrovsk region;
  • Poltava region;
  • Chernihiv region.

1.00 — for all other regions (unchanged).

In 2025, the regional coefficient for admission to institutions located in the Chernihiv region and the Bucha district of the Kyiv region has been reduced compared to last year.

Upon admission, the final competitive score will be multiplied by a regional coefficient – this will happen at the final stage of calculation after taking into account the exam results.

Please note that the coefficient does not depend on where you live, but on the location of the university you are applying to.

How does this work

Let's consider how this will work in practice. For example, in Ukrainian language when passing the NMT you got 150 points, and in mathematics – 140 points.

So, if you are going to enter a university located in the Zaporizhzhya, Odessa, Nikolaev, Sumy or Kharkov regions, then these points should be multiplied by 1.07. This is the regional coefficient in these regions.

Thus, we get that in Ukrainian your score will increase to 160.5, and in mathematics – to 149.8. You get almost 10 additional points, having an average score in these subjects. This significantly increases your chances of entering the desired university.

If you enter a higher educational institution in Kyiv, then in this case your scores will remain the same.
