The Ministry of Defense explained why it takes so long for weapons to reach Ukraine

Supply of weapons to Ukraine/European Truth

The supply of weapons is a complex process and requires many agreements from politicians and signed contracts with manufacturers.

Deputy Defense Minister Anna Malyar said this on a joint broadcast, Channel 24 reports. According to her, the process of supplying weapons is lengthy, it is very different from ordinary shopping in a store.

Contracts with weapons manufacturers

Even if we buy something from abroad and we can translate it ourselves, it might take a day. But it takes more time to deliver weapons, because before the war in Ukraine began, Western arms manufacturers already had certain contacts and obligations. That is, we are talking about what we urgently need and immediately conclude agreements, – said Malyar.

She added that, therefore, arms manufacturers should adjust their contracts in a certain way so that the weapons arrive as soon as possible.

Agreements with politicians at the highest level

She also explained that the transit of weapons through the territory of other countries is always more difficult than just for an individual to transfer something in a suitcase, because this usually requires permission at the highest level – from the cabinet of ministers or the parliament of those countries.

“These agreements are being discussed between the presidents and defense ministers, so in this situation we must be patient and understand that in fact all agreements have been concluded. We understand with what rhythm weapons will be supplied. But in order for us to already have parity in battles, we need more for some time,” the deputy minister explained.

Supplying Ukraine's multiple launch rocket systems

  • Ukraine has long needed these weapons, the authorities have repeatedly asked the West to provide them. Adviser to the Office of the President Mykhailo Podolyak noted that with them the Ukrainian defenders will be able to return the Russian invaders behind the Iron Curtain.
  • Before that, the head of the Presidential Office, Andriy Yermak, noted that the US continues to discuss the provision of these weapons. And the Pentagon reported that they “remember” Ukraine's request. Later, Vladimir Zelensky said that there would be good news next week on the supply of weapons.
  • The New York Times, citing US officials, assured that the administration of US President Joe Biden approved the shipment of MLRS systems to Ukraine.
