The Ministry of Culture and Information Policy has developed new bill. It provides for giving a special status to the English language in Ukraine as the language of international communication.

The English language may be granted a special status in Ukraine
The bill was prepared on behalf of the Prime Minister of Ukraine. This was announced at a briefing by First Deputy Minister Rostislav Karandeev.
According to him, the expansion of the scope of the English language in Ukraine will help accelerate the integration of Ukrainians into the European community, increase the state's competitiveness in the global market, as well as increase its investment and tourist attractiveness.
What is provided for by the document:
- the establishment of a special status of the English language in Ukraine as an international communication;
- a significant expansion of the scope of the English language in Ukraine;
- English will be mandatory in certain public areas public life, where there are international communications.
Yes, an interdepartmental working group is being created at the initiative of the ministry. It will include people's deputies of Ukraine, representatives of state bodies and the public. The working group will develop proposals for the bill. The next stage is public discussion, and then consideration by the government.
Karandeev also added that currently Ukraine is only 40th in the world rating out of 112 countries in relation to the level of ownership citizens in English.
