Now they will have the opportunity to receive better treatment abroad. In particular, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin approved the treatment of wounded Ukrainian soldiers in an American military hospital in Germany.
The plan allows up to 18 wounded soldiers to be treated at the same time at the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, a large hospital in Germany. It has been treating US military personnel who were injured during the battle for years.
According to a memo, on May 26, Austin gave a verbal order to start treating wounded Ukrainian soldiers. And already on June 29, he issued an oral instruction in a memorandum entitled “Guidelines for the treatment of wounded Ukrainian soldiers.”
Despite the fact that the plan received final approval almost a month ago, Landstuhl has not yet received Ukrainian soldiers to provide medical assistance.
We did not serve the Ukrainian military in Landstuhl,โ said a US European Command spokesman.
According to Lloyd, the purpose of the memorandum is to eliminate any bureaucratic red tape that slows down the treatment process if necessary. If there is no corresponding institution in Ukraine or in the nearest country, then the military will be admitted to this hospital, located about 1,000 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.
As noted, this is probably the first permission for the treatment of Ukrainian military personnel in the military , not civilian hospitals.
