It is obvious that the meeting between the newly elected US President Donald Trump and the Russian dictator Vladimir Putin is already being prepared. There are many questions about what Ukraine can expect.

Political scientist Igor Chalenko told Channel 24 about this, noting that the meeting between Trump and Putin may not begin with a discussion of the war in Ukraine. Now the United States has taken the Arctic seriously.

What Ukraine can expect

As Chalenko noted, Trump demonstrated that the United States has strategic interests in the Arctic. Now he is building up his “political muscles” on this topic. In addition, both will obviously discuss the sanctions that the United States imposed on Russia.

Of course, Trump and Putin will discuss the war in Ukraine. There are currently two concepts about how everything should end. And they do not intersect.

The Western concept concerns suspending Ukraine's aspirations to join NATO for 10-20 years. The creation of a demilitarized zone along the line of contact and further assistance to Ukraine. Russia wants permanent “neutrality”, to take even more territory and effectively turn Ukraine into a vassal. These two concepts do not converge at all, – Chalenko said.

In his opinion, it is unlikely that the meeting between Trump and Putin will significantly bring the end of the active phase of the war closer.

We will add that recently the adviser to the newly elected US President Mike Walz said that the meeting between Trump and Putin is already being prepared. Also, Trump did not name specific dates for the meeting, but noted that he wants it to take place as soon as possible. Trump emphasized that for Putin in the war, everything did not turn out the way he wanted.
