What to do when stuck in an elevator
Rules to follow if you are “stuck” in an elevator:
- Try to calm yourself, do not panic.
- Do not press all the buttons, do not jump in the elevator and do not try to open the car door yourself.
- Use the call button for the dispatcher or the emergency phone number of the elevator service and report the problem and your location.
Note, usually in elevator cabins or at the entrance there are announcements with the telephone number of the hotline of the company servicing the elevator. Take a photo of this data in advance or rewrite it. If such information is not available, then contact the condominium or housing office serving your home with a request to place the contact numbers of the emergency elevator service, by which citizens can notify it about the stop of the elevator cabin.
- If the dispatcher or emergency elevator service does not answer or cannot come, call the “101” service. The information will be sent to the operational duty officers of the emergency rescue teams of your area and the city as a whole, and rescuers who are not involved in the elimination of other emergencies will come to the rescue. If you do not have a phone with you or there is no mobile connection, call for help from residents of the house who live nearby or pass by, and ask them to call the appropriate service. If you feel hot while waiting for emergency service, unbutton or remove your outer clothing. If water is available, drink it in moderation. If the condition does not improve, put things on the floor and sit down with your legs stretched out. After the arrival of the emergency team, carefully follow all their instructions.
