Iranian oil magnate Hossein Shamkhani, through his network of companies, including Dubai-based Crios Shipping LLC, organized arms deliveries from Iran to Russia via the Caspian Sea.

His business provides more than a quarter of the total volume of Iranian arms deliveries to the Russian Federation, Bloomberg writes, citing anonymous sources.

Shamkhani's companies provide more than 25% of the total volume Iranian arms supplies to Russia.

Moscow pays for supplies in oil due to sanctions imposed by Western countries.

In addition to shipping companies, Shamkhani's business empire includes a hedge fund with offices in London, Geneva and Singapore.

Hossein Shahmani is the son of Iran's former defense minister, who is now an adviser to Iran's supreme leader Ali Khamenei.

Earlier, The Wall Street Journal reported that Iran had transferred a batch of short-range ballistic missiles to the Russian Federation.

On September 8, Ahmad Ardestani, a member of the Iranian parliament's issues of national security and foreign policy, in an interview with the publication Didban Iran reported that Tehran transferred ballistic missiles to Russia in a barter deal.

This information was denied by Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani.
