Over the past week, two corruption cases have been reported in Russia against representatives of the Russian Ministry of Defense and the military-industrial complex, who probably do not have political protection.

This was reported by the UK Ministry of Defense intelligence, analyzing information from Russian media.

In particular, this concerns the arrest of the head of the Russian Military Construction Company of the Russian Ministry of Defense Andrei Belkov on charges of corruption.

According to intelligence, it was created in 2019 by then-Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, which was probably used by corrupt Russian officials to enrichment.

In addition, on July 23, a court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced the former director of the Zvezda-Strela tactical missile plant to prison for embezzlement and price gouging.

– Corruption is widespread in the Russian defense industry. In 2007, an audit commissioned by then-Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov found that 70% of the Defense Ministry's budget funds were being misused, — they say in intelligence.

And they note that the Kremlin often puts up with corruption, but with the start of a full-scale war against Ukraine, “repressions against those who are not politically sufficiently protected” are intensifying.

Also, another former Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Bulgakov, was recently arrested in a corruption case.

In the Russian Ministry of Defense, he was responsible for the logistics of the Russian Armed Forces. In September 2022, he was dismissed from his position due to a transfer to another.
