According to The Wall Street Journal, citing interlocutors from Austrian intelligence, Russian officials in Vienna allegedly paid a fee to the killers of the Russian pilot Maxim Kuzminov, who cooperated with Ukraine and hijacked an Mi-8 helicopter.
According to foreign intelligence, the Russian Federation transports large sums of cash to Austria by land, and then Russian mercenaries transport this money throughout Europe, often in their personal belongings, which the police cannot check.

Intelligence notes that the number of Russian officials working in Austria has increased to more than 500 over the past two years.
Half of them are diplomats and persons with managerial functions, and the other part — acts as spies, the publication notes.
In particular, Russians from the Russian Consulate in Munich moved to Austria when it was closed. Among them, it is believed, were several spies.
Foreign intelligence agencies suggest that Russian operatives in Austria are being brought in to track the logistics of Western military aid for Ukraine.
Austrian MP Stefanie Crisper noted that the government must put an end to the extreme danger in the actions of Russian spies, because in fact — this undermines attempts to weaken Russian influence in Europe.
