The Russian occupiers forced the teenagers to destroy the Heavenly Hundred memorial in Kherson. They threatened the guys that they would kidnap them if they didn't stop crying with photos of the heroes.

Subsequently, the Russian invaders used the video of the teenagers destroying the memorial for their own propaganda. One of the guys who suffered from the actions of the invaders, Vladislav Bala, spoke about the whole situation during an expert meeting “Kherson region under occupation. Management, propaganda, repression”, organized by the Center for Strategic Communications and Information Security together with partners.

Apparently, Vlad managed to leave Kherson, so now he can calmly talk about this incident.

The guys were just passing by the memorial

Teens were returning home when they saw that two men in black clothes were tearing down posters of the heroes of the Heavenly Hundred. One of my friends decided to film everything: he wanted to distribute it in pro-Ukrainian telegram channels.

During a secret shooting, a black bus drove up to the guys, from where armed men came out. They lined up the guys against the wall, checked the phones, asked questions about the war. Several guys kicked and threatened.

We were given a choice. I remember literally. One says: “Either we pack you now and take you out so that they won’t find you. Or you go and help tear down the posters. Everything was rude. They put weapons on us,” Vlad said.

The guys understood that their situation was too complicated, so they agreed to break it. Although, of course, they didn't want to do it. One of the occupiers started filming everything and saying that “Kherson has long been Russia”, that the guys are doing everything of their own free will and other propaganda nonsense. The invaders also forced one of the teenagers to cut off the EU flag, saying the “correct” phrases.

In the end, the guys were still allowed to go home. However, the phones were not returned to everyone. One guy was taken away because they saw pro-Ukrainian telegram channels there.

Vlad is convinced that this is definitely not a rare case when the occupiers distort everything like this.

I want to convey this information not only to the people of Kherson, but to all Ukrainians. I don't want people to think that there are many traitors in Kherson. I love my city. I love my country. I really want to go home,” the guy emphasized.
