Israel continues its operation in the Gaza Strip. Air and sea strikes against terrorist sites continue unabated. IDF soldiers continue to narrow the circle near Gaza City.

Former Israeli Ambassador to Russia Arkady Mil-Man told Channel 24 that the Israel Defense Forces had surrounded Gaza. They also managed to eliminate the commander of one of the Hamas regiments.

The IDF has changed its tactics

The tactics that the IDF is now using are somewhat different than previously planned. According to the former ambassador, she was replaced because the war is being waged not against the army, but against terrorists. The first step of the operation was a heavy bombardment of Hamas from the air and sea. Next came the engineering troops, who cleared the roads and houses.

Only after this did tanks, artillery and infantry follow. Considering the terrain in which soldiers and officers fight, as well as the tasks they perform, the results are more than satisfactory,” said Arkady Mil-Man

In addition, there is ongoing talk that Algeria may declare war on Israel. Today it is difficult to say how the situation will develop, because the countries do not have a common border. If these are missile attacks again, Israel will use air defense.

“Algeria is the largest consumer of Russian weapons. They bought billions of dollars worth of weapons, so they really have a lot of them. But if they still declare war, they will make a mistake, because Israel will respond,” the former ambassador emphasized.

What are Israel's goals?

First, it talks about the destruction of terrorists and their infrastructure, in particular tunnels, bunkers, warehouses with missiles, and premises in which they manufactured weapons. The goal is also to eliminate the high command.

It is advisable to destroy all terrorists, because the blood on their hands is the people who killed. Those who surrender will be in prison, but for others there is no other choice but to completely eliminate them,” said Arkady Mil-Man.

He added that the most important thing now is to deal with the higher level of Hamas, because then it will be easier to deal with the smaller remaining units.

How long will the operation take?

The Israeli military may remain in the Gaza Strip longer, since the operation will probably not be completed in 2 to 3 weeks. At first it was reported that it would be immediate, then they said differently – all this so that Hamas would not find out Israel’s plans. It is certain that plans for the invasion of Gaza were changed due to the actions of terrorists.

The preparation took some time, but this allowed the reservists to undergo additional instruction, synchronize various actions, and obtain additional intelligence data. The captured terrorists also revealed a lot of important information that needed to be studied.

The operation continues slowly, but according to plan. The city was surrounded even faster than expected. Progress is slow, because now the most important thing is to save the lives of Israeli soldiers, the former ambassador emphasized.

The fact that the Israeli army is already applying the experience of the Ukrainian army is eloquent. For example, special canopies on tanks to protect them from drones.

The Engineering Troops also use the experience that Ukraine demonstrated in the deoccupied territories, when the Ukrainian Armed Forces carried out a clean-up operation there,” Arkady Mil-Man emphasized.

The operation will probably continue for a long time, because the war is difficult, terrorists are hiding in tunnels, and the areas are densely populated. There are also many civilians, but they are trying with all their might not to be drawn into hostilities and under no circumstances to destroy them, because this is a war crime.

The situation in Israel: briefly

  • IDF officials reported that Israel managed to reach the Gaza coast. The military hit about 50 Hamas targets, including outposts, military positions, and underground infrastructure. The IDF added that the fire would not stop.
  • IDF spokesman Daniel Hagari confirmed that Gaza had been divided into two parts, as well as taking control of the Hamas military camp. It contained observation posts, training grounds and underground tunnels for terrorists.
  • The Israeli Ministry of Finance estimates that if the war with Hamas lasts from 8 to 12 months, it will cost the country more than $50 billion. The analysis did not take into account possible intervention in the war by Hezbollah, Iran or Yemen. Moreover, in Israel, gold fell in price – this indicates that the war turned out to be less widespread than investors expected.
