The IAEA recorded new attacks and explosions on the territory of the Zaporozhye NPP

IAEA experts present at ZNPP recorded new shelling of the nuclear power plant. So, the explosions were near the training center of the station next to the turbine halls and near the channel that carries water from the reservoir to the station.

The shelling, recorded by the IAEA, took place on September 26 at about 5:00 pm and on September 27 at 8 am. This was stated by Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi of the International Atomic Energy Agency.

The situation at the Zaporizhzhya NPP remains unstable

Explosions heard for two days in a row once again stressed the urgent need for a nuclear safety and security zone around the plant. As a result, windows were broken near the ZNPP in:

  • one of the turbine halls;
  • the engine room of reactor unit No. 2.

There were no reports of damage to the training center, station structure or equipment.

The IAEA also emphasized that explosions on September 27 were recorded near the channel that carries water from the reservoir to the station for its cooling system, which is an important element nuclear safety.

According to the senior staff of ZNPP, the cause of the explosions is still unknown and is being investigated, the Agency experts added.

Pay attention! Shelling and explosions at the ZNPP site occurred after several days of silence.

These incidents show that the overall situation remains volatile and immediate action is needed to reduce the risk of a major accident at the largest nuclear power plant in Europe, which is now in the middle of a war zone.

Preliminary shelling of the station

Last time, the infidels shelled the ZNPP on the night of September 21st. However, at that time, only broken windows were not enough – the communication equipment in the 6th power unit was damaged, which led to an emergency situation.

Thus, the unit transformer and auxiliary transformers of the power unit were turned off. Since power was lost, two diesel generators started up in an emergency. They were activated in order to ensure the operation of the fuel cooling pumps.

The Russians continue to commit acts of nuclear terrorism at nuclear power plants in Ukraine. They are not stopped even by the presence of IAEA inspectors at the Zaporozhye NPP site, – the company noted then.
