The Hungarian government plans to hold the thirteenth consultations with the country's population. The main issue: support for Ukraine's membership in the European Union.

This was stated by the State Secretary of the Hungarian government, Tamás Menczer. He recorded a video message to the citizens of the country.

A survey will be conducted in Hungary

Do you think Ukraine has a place in the European Union? Have your say during the national consultation starting soon! Mentzer says in the video.

Mentzer did not complete his appeal there. He continued to voice a text that plays into Russia’s narratives and also encourages Hungarians to respond negatively during consultations.

Now there is a war in Ukraine, so if the country is admitted to the European Union, then the war will be transferred to the community, and a significant part of the EU resources will also go to Ukraine,” the Secretary of State practically repeats Szijjártó’s statement.

With these words, he assures that Ukraine's membership in the EU will include certain military obligations. And that our state can become a member of the European Union in the near future, while the country is fighting against Russia.

But the truth is this: Ukraine’s membership in the EU does not impose any military obligations on member countries. All the country's obligations can be accepted jointly. Actually, Viktor Orban will traditionally be able to continue to blackmail others, vetoing a joint decision in order to obtain benefits for Hungary.

During the address , Menczer also said that Ukraine would receive money intended for Hungary. But this is also not at all true.

What will also be emphasized?

During the consultations, the government of Viktor Orban is preparing to use other arguments against Ukraine. In particular, the so-called oppression of the rights of the Hungarian minority.

The national communities in Ukraine were deprived of their existing rights, the rights of the Hungarian national community, and these rights have not been returned to this day, says Mentser.

By the way, in January 2023, the Hungarian government announced the results of national consultations. They concerned the EU sanctions policy. Hungary said that 97% of respondents were against sanctions imposed on Russia for allowing a full-scale war.

At the time, the Hungarian government said nearly 1.4 million people had expressed their views. Please note that there are more than 8.2 million registered voters in the country.
