The US House of Representatives passed Speaker Mike Johnson's bill to temporarily fund the government to prevent a shutdown.

CNN reports this.

The bill passed on a bipartisan vote of 336 to 95, with Democrats accounting for 209 votes.

The two-step plan extends funding through Jan. 19 for priority areas including military construction, veterans affairs, transportation, housing and the Department of Energy. Other needs—anything not covered by the first step—will be funded until February 2.

This temporary funding, like the previous one, does not provide additional assistance for Israel or Ukraine.

The bill must then be approved by the Senate. Afterwards, the document will go to US President Joe Biden for signature. The Senate is expected to consider the interim budget at the end of the week.

Biden ready to sign the bill

A White House spokesman said President Joe Biden is willing to sign the House-passed government funding bill if it passes the Senate.

“If it passes the Senate, the President will sign this continuing resolution, which maintains current funding levels and does not contain harmful policy amendments,” the official said.

Beyond the immediate fight for government funding, the official also called on House Republicans to abandon “extreme, partisan appropriations bills” and work with Democrats on appropriations bills for the entire year.

The official also called on Congress to pass funding for Israel, Ukraine and border security.

Earlier, US Presidential National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said that the lack of a new aid package for Ukraine is already affecting the US's ability to help.
