The EU should introduce sanctions against those responsible for violation of democratic values in Belarus. This called on Friday, August 14, Prime Minister Ursula von der Leyen on his Twitter page.

“We need more sanctions against those who violated democratic values and abuse of human rights in Belarus. I’m sure the debate of the Ministers of foreign Affairs of the EU will demonstrate our strong support of the rights of the people of Belarus on civil liberties and democracy”, — stated in the message policy.

A day earlier it was reported that the restrictive measures against those responsible for violations in Belarus can enter before the end of August. This issue is being discussed in the EU at the highest level.

Meeting of Ministers announced on 12 August. On 11 August it was reported that the EU is thinking about measures against Minsk if it does not establish a dialogue with the opposition and will not stop the violence in the country. The Association considers that their relationship with the Republic can deteriorate “without progress in human rights and the rule of law.”

Protests in Belarus began after the announcement of the official results of the presidential elections, according to which acting head of the Republic Alexander Lukashenko gained more than 80 percent of the vote.
