SBU counterintelligence prevented four terrorist attacks in Kyiv, which were planned for May 9. This was reported by the press service of the government agency.
SBU officers detained Russian GRU agents who were planting explosive devices in construction hypermarkets of a well-known chain and near one of the cafes.

It is reported that the improvised explosive devices were disguised in tea packaging. They consisted of a timer, a detonator and a plastic explosive with an incendiary mixture, which was supposed to cause large-scale fires.

“According to the Russian intelligence service, the explosives were supposed to detonate during peak hours of hypermarket traffic in order to cause maximum harm to the civilian population. In addition, they planned to place it among flammable materials — so that such a fire cannot be quickly extinguished, — reported to the SBU.
They added that the attackers were planning another terrorist attack near a popular cafe in Kyiv. Russian agents wanted to plant explosive devices in a car parked nearby.
The SBU stated that in this way the GRU of the Russian Federation wanted to destabilize the situation in Ukraine, as well as send a signal on the symbolic day for them, May 9, about the alleged presence of a Russian underground in Kyiv, which is waiting for the arrival of the “Russian world”.
“By planning these terrorist attacks, the Russian special services have once again demonstrated their criminal nature. We acted proactively and thwarted the enemy's plans in time. Every step of the criminals is documented — they will receive a well-deserved punishment. As well as everyone who tries to work in favor of the Russian Federation. It is symbolic that the dates to which the Russians want to time their terrorist attacks are gradually becoming a symbol of the failure of their intelligence services, — said the head of the SBU Vasily Malyuk.
Counterintelligence of the Security Service established that the curator of the Russian terrorist attacks was GRU officer Yuri Sizov, who serves in military unit No. 92154. It was this man who personally gave instructions to the recruited agents.
The SBU added that Sizov even recorded a video instruction on how to install an explosive device in one of the stores of the same chain in the Moscow region.

It is noted that the SBU has now established the entire chain of this network, including intelligence-combat groups, smugglers who delivered explosives from the territory of the Russian Federation, as well as the direct perpetrators of the terrorist attack: they were caught red-handed when they were installing explosive devices in third hypermarket.
The detainees were informed of suspicion in accordance with the crimes they had committed, in particular under the following articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine: Art. 111 (high treason), Art. 113 (sabotage), Art. 258 (terrorist act). They face life imprisonment.
Recall that on May 11, in a commentary to ICTV Facts, SBU representative Artem Dekhtyarenko said that the Security Service prevented the terrorist attacks that the Russian GRU planned to carry out in Kyiv on May 9.
