Russian invaders do not have time to make up for their losses in the war in Ukraine. Therefore, some of their groups are extremely understaffed.

Russia in the war against Ukraine uses battalion tactical groups – BTGr. This is a combined-arms maneuver unit, which is kept in high combat readiness. Each battalion tactical group has about 600 – 800 officers and soldiers, as well as about 10 tanks and 40 infantry fighting vehicles.

In the battles in Ukraine, Russia suffers a lot of losses. And it's not just about 32,950 invaders that the Ukrainian military destroyed during the war (as of June 16). The casualties also include the wounded, who cannot take part in hostilities.

This is precisely what makes the Russian occupation forces in Donbass operate in increasingly scattered and understaffed groups. British intelligence, citing data from the Ukrainian authorities, reports that some Russian battalion tactical groups, usually consisting of 600-800 people, were able to muster only 30 soldiers.

Fighting in small groups

At that time At the same time, British intelligence notes that where fighting continues in cities on the front line, Ukrainians and our enemies are increasingly moving into small groups of troops. And these groups operate “on foot”. This situation makes it possible to neutralize the advantage of the Russians in technology.

“Some of the strengths of Russia, such as its advantage in the number of tanks, become less relevant in this environment. This probably contributes to the slow speed of advance,” – says in the British intelligence report.
