The future of the United States is being decided: how Trump uses American sentiments and what this could lead to

The latest polls show that Donald Trump is ahead of Joseph Biden by 2% of the American vote. This is possible thanks to the effective populist rhetoric of the ex-president and the fall in Biden’s rating against the backdrop of rising prices in the United States.

International political scientist Ruslan Osipenko told Channel 24 about this. He is convinced that Donald Trump has every chance to win the 2024 presidential election using populist slogans.

Why does Trump have high ratings?

Donald Trump, running for the third time in a row for the presidency of the United States, is actually fighting for survival. He has two options: either go to prison or become president.

The fact is that he is accused of numerous crimes – from attempting to seize power to financial manipulation and even rape. And having become president, Trump will receive the status of insane for the duration of his duties.

There is a demand in American society to break the regular rise to power of systemic politicians who are supposedly “out of touch with the people” and do not take into account their needs, Osipenko explained.

It is this request that Donald Trump uses to solve his personal problem – avoiding a prison sentence. Thanks to his unsystematic nature, he looks attractive in the eyes of Republican voters and may even return to the presidency in the White House.

Who can challenge Trump in the Republican Party

Donald Trump is supported by more than 40% of Republican voters, so he allows himself not to attend the debates. He received these percentages using radical slogans that may not be shared by more moderate party supporters.

Therefore, only Niki Gailey, the former governor and permanent representative of the United States to the UN, can challenge the ex-president. After the last debate, she began to overtake Ron Desantis and is gradually becoming the second popular candidate from the Republican Party.

At the same time, Gailey has an important trump card: compared to Trump, she has a lower anti-rating, which is more likely to allow her to defeat Joseph Biden. This scenario would also be very positive for Ukraine, which Gailey is ready to continue to support, calling us a “pro-American country.”

What threatens a change in course for the United States?

Three obstacles stand in the way of Biden's re-election:

  • economic indicators of the United States, long recovering from the Covid-19 pandemic and the crisis caused by the Kremlin’s aggression. And, despite the fact that the American economy has already begun to recover, inflation in the country remains high;
  • the migration policy of the Democratic Party, which considers it has nothing against regulated emigration to the United States, which from its very beginnings has been a “country of emigrants”; At the same time, Trump advocates a complete ban on new immigrants, a position that is more popular in a country where 63% are dissatisfied with immigration.
  • the age of current President Joseph Biden, who recently turned 81; Paradoxically, there is no similar concern about Donald Trump, who is 77.

At the same time, there are practically no other candidates in the Democratic Party who could compete with the current president. Therefore, the Democrats are in a situation where any step will worsen their position.

This is now being taken advantage of by the reactionary MAGA Republicans, who see the priority as solving domestic American problems, despite the fact that today the future of the United States is being decided in foreign policy. It is precisely because of their principled position that the decision to provide assistance to Israel and Ukraine has remained unaccepted for more than a month.

The United States can level out the economic situation in the country by directing funds (spent on supporting partner countries – Channel 24) “inside”, but then they will fall under the influence of dictatorial regimes (which will strengthen while the United States adheres to isolationism – Channel 24) , the political scientist suggested.

However, the average American is more influenced not by Biden’s argument about useful investments in the security of other states, but by populist slogans that refusal to support US allies will lead to an improvement in the quality of life in the country.

Given this, there is a threat that in the struggle for power, party interests may become higher than the national interests of the United States. And this, in turn, could lead to the United States ceasing to be a global leader.

Why is the decision on aid to Ukraine and Israel delayed?

  • At the end of October, Biden introduced a proposal to Congress for a $106 billion aid package, which would be spent on supporting Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan, as well as on improving the border with Mexico.
  • However, the Republican-controlled House of Representatives rejected the president's proposal and voted on their own law on aid to Israel, which Democrats refused to support.
  • In order to break the stalemate, congressmen of both parties from the Senate began working on a new version of Biden’s initiative. It is reported that the new decision will include aid to Ukraine and Israel along with changes to immigration laws and could be put to a vote before the end of December.
