The actions of the Russian invaders resulted in the first ever complete shutdown of the Zaporozhye NPP. Despite the provocation of the enemy, the level of radiation in Energodar is still normal.
Why there was a blackout at the ZNPP
About the situation at Zaporizhzhya NPP was told in the state enterprise Energoatom, which operates the nuclear power plant. Two still operating power units have been disconnected from the network.
According to Energoatom, on August 25 at 12:12, as a result of hostilities in the area of the Zaporizhzhya NPP, the overhead line of the 750 kV Dneprovskaya overhead line was disconnected.
This, in turn, entailed:
- ZNPP power unit No. 5 was disconnected from the grid, followed by emergency protection;
- ZNPP power unit No. 6 was switched to power supply for its own needs.
At 12:29, after the resumption of operation of the overhead line VL-750 kV “Dneprovskaya”, power unit No. 6 was connected to the network. At 14:14 there was a repeated shutdown of the overhead line VL-750 kV “Dneprovskaya”. As a result, power unit No. 6 was disconnected from the network, followed by emergency protection.
Energoatom explained that due to fires near the Zaporizhzhya TPP, located next to the ZNPP, the last fourth communication line of the Zaporizhzhya NPP with the power grid was disconnected twice Ukraine. It is reported that three other communication lines were previously damaged during shelling.
Consequently, all 6 power units of Zaporozhye NPP are disconnected from the network. Energoatom emphasized that this happened for the first time in history.
An attempt is being made to connect one of the power units to the grid
It is reported that Zaporizhzhya NPP's own power supply needs are provided from the power system of Ukraine through the ZNPP communication line – Zaporozhye TPP.
Energoatom notes that there are no comments on the operation of automation and security systems at the Zaporozhye NPP yet. Start-up operations are underway to connect one of the power units to the grid.
The radiation background in Energodar is normal
Energodar Mayor Dmitry Orlov said that as of 14:30, the radiation background in the city is 10 4 microroentgens per hour, which corresponds to the natural one.
He urged people not to use potassium iodite without a recommendation, since there is no need for this now.
Russian provocations at the ZNPP
- On March 4, the invaders seized Enerhodar and the Zaporizhia NPP. In August, the Russians resorted to nuclear terrorism: at the beginning of the month, “arrivals” were recorded at the industrial site of the ZNPP. Invaders' shells also fell near one of the power units where the nuclear reactor is.
- The invaders almost hit the containers of spent nuclear fuel during the shelling. The power unit at the ZNPP was under threat of shelling.
- As a result of the shelling at the Zaporizhzhya NPP, the flyover was damaged, and there is also a risk of violating radiation safety standards. Russia was replacing the ZNPP and is threatening to blow up the nuclear plant.
