The European Commission has preliminary agreed on granting Ukraine the status of an EU candidate/Channel 24 Collage

As of June 16, the European Commission has already agreed on granting Ukraine the status of an EU candidate. However, several conditions may be put forward for this.

This became known from a publication by Radio Liberty journalist Rikard Jozwiak. In addition, the details of the agreed decision were published by Bloomberg.

Moldova will also be granted EU candidate status.

According to Jozwiak, the European Commission has come to a preliminary agreement on granting candidate status to Ukraine and Moldova. In addition, Georgia may soon be given such an opportunity. However, regarding the last country of this list, the decision will be made only after the discussion by the leaders of the European Commission, which should take place in a week.

When the European Commission recommends granting candidate status to Ukraine

According to media reports, the main executive body of the EU recommends granting candidate status to Ukraine as early as Friday, April 17th. This was reported by anonymous sources familiar with the plans of the European leadership.

The procedure is complicated by the diversity of opinions among the 27 member countries making the final decision to move the process forward, the publication says.< /p>

When Ukraine becomes a candidate for admission, a very long process of preparing the state will begin. Our state will need to complete several steps necessary for full accession. Earlier, Bloomberg reported that they are talking about efforts to strengthen the rule of law, as well as the fight against corruption in Ukraine.

The rhetoric of Scholz and Macron has changed dramatically

French President Emanuel Macron has previously made statements which could indicate that we and the people of Moldova will be offered an “interim version” of the agreement. He said that there should be a new association of countries that are striving to join the EU and even submitted a corresponding draft to the European Parliament. Also, ambiguous statements were made by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

However, already on June 16, completely different opinions were voiced. This happened during a joint visit to Kyiv by Macron with Scholz, Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi and Romanian President Klaus Iogannis. All these leaders openly supported granting Ukraine candidate status.
