The European Union has proposed banning the export of machine tools and machine parts that Russia uses to produce weapons aimed against Ukraine.
Bloomberg reports this with reference to documents obtained by the agency.
It is indicated that the proposal is contained in the 12th package of EU sanctions, which also includes a ban on the export of diamonds and measures to strengthen control over compliance with the upper limit on the price of Russian oil.

“The main focus of the new package of sanctions is to further limit the Kremlin’s ability to circumvent EU sanctions and feed its war machine, as well as to reduce Moscow’s sources of income,” the report said.
The EU also proposes to add chemicals, lithium batteries, thermostats, and motors and servos for drones to the list of restricted goods.
In addition, the new package of sanctions may include:
- prohibit Russians from holding positions in European companies that provide account services and storage of crypto assets,
- prohibit the granting of licenses for enterprise management software and industrial design and manufacturing software,
- require that firms in Europe that are owned or controlled by Russians or Russian legal entities obtain permission to transfer funds outside the EU,
- introduce a requirement that exporters include clauses in their contracts prohibiting the re-export of certain goods to the Russian Federation.
At the same time, Bloomberg adds that EU member states are due to discuss the proposals this week, and they could change before they are approved.
Earlier, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell said that work on the 12th package of sanctions against Russia is being completed. Restrictive measures against the Russian Federation will be both personal, economic and sectoral.
