The European Union began preparing the 14th package of sanctions. It will include measures that will limit circumvention of existing sanctions.

New package of sanctions against Russia

The European Union has already begun working on a new package of sanctions against Russia. Special Representative David O'Sullivan will address foreign ministers during the EU Council meeting on Monday. He will present a report to member states on exactly how the Russians manage to circumvent sanctions.

We have already started working on the 14th package of sanctions and I'm sure it will include anti-circumvention measures. They were already in the 12th and 13th packages of sanctions, the interlocutor said.

The European Union reminds that the sanctions are aimed at undermining Putin’s ability to wage war in Ukraine and isolate Russia from a political, economic and diplomatic point of view.

During the meeting, ministers may also agree on sanctions against individuals who are involved in Navalny's death. Now the EU is considering the idea of ​​creating a separate sanctions regime aimed at the human rights situation in Russia.

It is known that they plan to create such a sanctions regime in honor of the deceased Russian oppositionist Alexei Navalny and call named after him.

Sanctions against a number of Russians have been extended: what is known

• The EU extended sanctions against some Russians. They were introduced against persons who, in the opinion of the European Council, are responsible for a threat to the territorial integrity or sovereignty of Ukraine. These restrictions will now be in effect until September 15 of this year.
• In general, sanctions have been imposed against 2 100 individuals and legal entities. These people directly influence the continuation of Russia's military aggression and contribute to the strengthening of the Russian defense complex.
• It is worth noting that 9 people were removed from the general list and were declared dead. Restrictions will not apply against another 3 people for other reasons.
