Situation in Zaporizhia as of May 22/Collage of Channel 24
The situation in the southeastern direction of hostilities, including in partially occupied Zaporozhye, remains difficult, but under control.
Anatoly Kurtev, the secretary of the Zaporozhye City Council, spoke about this in more detail.
Explosions in Zaporozhye
First, the representative of the City Council spoke about the explosions that were heard in Zaporozhye at night on May 22. According to him, at about 3 o'clock the Cossacks heard the sounds of a missile strike, which the Russian invaders caused on the civilian infrastructure of one of the villages of the Volnyansky district.
Relevant services are currently on site. According to the Zaporizhzhya OVA, there were 3 “arrivals”, as a result of which civilians were injured. However, the military will provide more details about the consequences of the shelling.
The situation on the front line
According to Kurtev, the occupiers have concentrated their main forces and means in the areas of Orekhov and Gulyaipol . The Russians continue to conduct aerial reconnaissance, strengthen air defense systems and equip protective structures – the so-called long-term defensive points or pillboxes.
Also, the Ukrainian military noticed the movement of an enemy tank unit and the strengthening of the second line of defense near the village of Konskie Rozdory.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine continue to hold the defense of Zaporozhye. They carry out their combat missions, repulse the enemies and destroy their equipment and personnel. In particular, over the past day, Ukrainian defenders liquidated 21 invaders, and wounded 11 more enemies. They also destroyed:
- 3 armored fighting vehicles,
- 1 drone,
- 2 vehicles,
- 1 mortar .
Ukrainian partisans are also actively involved in the fight against the invaders. The Zaporozhye Defense Forces, together with the Resistance Movement, destroyed enemy radar stations near Melitopol. With their help, the Russians jammed communications and conducted reconnaissance.
In addition, thanks to the well-coordinated work of Ukrainian riflemen and partisans, several artillery systems of the aggressor were destroyed.
