The enemy does not have enough mechanized forces to advance in Bakhmut, there are problems with attack aircraft – ISW

The Russians continue to throw all possible forces to capture Bakhmut. However, analysts suggest that the enemy does not have enough mechanized forces to advance further.

Moreover, there are also problems with assault squads. This is emphasized in a recent report by the Institute for the Study of War.

The enemy has problems with maneuvering battles

According to the authors of the report, the occupiers lack the mechanized forces that are needed to use the roads west of the city. The Institute assumes that they are well fortified. Also, the available tactical assault units near Bakhmut are probably not capable of maneuvering combat operations.

Analysts noted that the recent advance of enemy troops in urban areas is a demonstration that the Russians can provide limited tactical advantages through frontal infantry attacks.

At the same time, it should be understood that these assault squads have heavy artillery and use simplified tactics. They also assign tanks the role of fire support in rear areas. In addition, these military will try to effectively conduct operations outside urban areas.

One of the Russian military correspondents thinks the same way. On March 7, he noted that the assault detachments are too small to “punch a wide and deep gap” in the Ukrainian defense groupings and follow them with tank and mechanized battalions. So he called for the formation of breakthrough brigades. This probably greatly exceeds the capabilities of Russian troops in this region.

The occupiers will not be able to properly use any of the advance routes they have opened in Bakhmut. The reason for this is the transition to the use of small assault squads with simplified tactics. Also, the insane losses that he bears do not play into the hands of the enemy. So, according to the Institute, the enemy is unlikely to win more than a tactical victory. And this is after 10 months of assaults.

The enemy suffers enormous losses

  • According to journalists, near Bakhmut, the Russian army could lose up to 30 thousand of its fighters. Moreover, the ratio of killed and wounded can be worse than one to three.
  • Other observers voiced the ratio of the losses of the enemy and the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the battles for Bakhmut. The losses of the Russian army in attempts to capture the city are 5 times higher than ours.
  • And since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, our defenders and defenders have managed to eliminate 154,830 Russian fighters. Note that this figure is approximate, because it is very difficult to accurately calculate the liquidated invaders in the war zones.
