On the 82nd day of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, enemy troops continue to conduct offensive operations in the Eastern Operational Zone. Currently, the aggressor has focused on the Donetsk direction.
The Ukrainian General Staff spoke about the situation at the front on the morning of May 16. They noted: Russian aviation continues to strike in the East and on targets in other regions of Ukraine.
What is the situation at the front: the main directions
direction
The enemy is trying to hold back the Ukrainian defenders north of Kharkov and prevent access to the state border. The Russians are also preparing offensive actions – this applies to units near Izyum.
In the Slavic directionThe enemy did not conduct active hostilities. The Russians are resupplying their forces and replenishing their losses. From artillery, enemy troops fired on civilian infrastructure in the areas of the settlements of Dovgenkoye, Russian Tishki, Ternovaya and Petrovka. The enemy also carried out aerial reconnaissance. Seversk direction
The enemy has tightened control over the border in the Bryansk and Kursk regions, and the Russians are also carrying out demonstration actions to keep our defenders in these directions. The likelihood of shelling and missile and bomb attacks from Russian territory remains in this region.
Donetsk direction
The occupiers fired at the entire line of confrontation with all possible weapons, including aviation. Raven wants to exhaust the Ukrainian soldiers and destroy their fortifications.
- In the Limansky, Bakhmutsky and Kurakhovsky directions: the enemy offensive, military operations continue.
- In the Avdiivka direction: the enemy suffered losses, he retreated to his former positions.
- In the Severodonetsk and Novopavlovsk directions: there were no active hostilities, the enemy was shelling our positions.
- In Mariupolthe enemy continues to shell Azovstal from aviation and artillery.
Yuzhnobuzhskoe direction
Russian troops did not conduct active combat operations, however fired at Ukrainian positions with cannon artillery and mortars.

Volyn and Polesye directions
There was no action here. Seven battalions of Belarusian troops continue to cover the border. Checking the combat readiness of the armed forces of Belarus should last until May 21.
