Russia took advantage of its mobilization to expand its network of spies abroad

The WSJ writes that Russian authorities have taken advantage of migrants who fled mobilization in Russia after September 2022 in order to expand their network of agents and spies abroad. After the start of the full-scale invasion, the Kremlin's intelligence network was significantly weakened, as Western states began to actively track Russian spies and audited Russian diplomatic departments for the presence of such agents.

According to the publication, the Russian side has also begun to more actively attract foreigners to participate in various operations abroad.

Losses of the Russian Federation in February 2024 — the largest in two years of the great war

In February 2024, the average daily losses of the Russian army were the largest since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, reports the UK Ministry of Defense.

It is indicated that over the past month the Russian Federation lost an average of 983 people per day, we are talking about killed and wounded.

— The rise in the daily average almost certainly demonstrates Russia's readiness for a massive war of attrition. Although this is costly in terms of human lives, this effect increases pressure on Ukrainian positions along the entire front line, — noted in British intelligence.

The department believes that today Russia has probably lost more than 355 thousand military personnel killed and wounded in the war.

Artificial intelligence will help in demining Ukraine

The Ministry of Economy of Ukraine and the technology company Palantir, specializing in big data analytics, signed a partnership agreement that provides for the future involvement of artificial intelligence (AI) in the process of humanitarian demining of Ukrainian territories.

The agreement was signed in London, during the visit to the UK of the Ukrainian delegation led by the First Deputy Prime Minister, Head of the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine Yulia Sviridenko.

— Humanitarian demining — zero stage of restoration of Ukraine. Currently, 156 thousand square kilometers of land are potentially contaminated, and more than 6 million Ukrainians are at risk. That is why accelerating humanitarian demining, in particular through cooperation with technology companies like Palantir, is an opportunity to save lives and quickly begin the reconstruction of Ukraine, — said Sviridenko.

On the Palantir side, the document was signed by Executive Vice President for the UK and Europe Louis Mosley, who stated that the agreement would help save the lives of Ukrainians and strengthen the Ukrainian economy.

According to the document, cooperation is expected in the following areas:

  • digitization of humanitarian demining operations, automation of processes provided for by the National Mine Action Strategy for the period until 2033;
  • expanding digital capabilities to coordinate land release and assessment, regional prioritization and mine action risk management;
  • using an assistant based on the Palantir artificial intelligence platform (AIP) for decision-making in mine action.

The said platform is expected to handle large databases. They will be formed by structures involved in the implementation of mine action activities (local governments, regional authorities, ministries and departments, as well as mine action operators).

These databases will include both permanent information, for example, assessment of the economic efficiency of agricultural land, the proximity of contaminated areas to communications, etc., and operational information, which will be regularly updated.
