The Czech Republic may create a volunteer legion of Ukrainians following the example of Poland Sofia Rozhik Czech Republic considers creating Legion of Ukrainian Volunteers/Collage 24 Kanal In early July, Poland began talking about creating a Ukrainian Legion – a volunteer military unit. Now the Czech Republic is considering the same initiative. They are studying the experience of their Polish colleagues. This was reported by the Minister of Defense of the Czech Republic, Jana Černochová. Jana Černohová noted that the enrollment of volunteers in this military unit, like Poland, will be voluntary. We want to continue training Ukrainian soldiers, so why not include in this process, perhaps, Czech citizens who consider themselves of Ukrainian nationality, and form some kind of unit, – said the head of the Czech Ministry of Defense. Recall that on July 8, Ukraine and Poland signed a bilateral security agreement. In particular, it provides for the possibility of training Ukrainian men abroad. “We have a positive experience of the Ukrainian-Polish-Lithuanian brigade and it is on the basis of this experience that we will give the citizens of Ukraine who are now in Poland, Lithuania or other EU countries the opportunity to voluntarily join the defense of Ukraine,” President Zelensky said at the time. The training of the Ukrainian Legion will take place in Poland. Every Ukrainian who decides to join the Legion will subsequently be able to sign a contract with the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The Polish authorities assured that the training of the Ukrainian Legion is an investment in European security. Already on July 11, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said that the training of the first Ukrainian brigade had begun. He noted that there are currently about a million Ukrainian women and men on Polish territory. And several thousand of them have already registered to participate in this prize. And what is interesting is that many of them really want to serve and rotate their compatriots, but they say: we do not want to be sent into battle without being properly trained and equipped, – Sikorsky noted.Enrollment in the legion will be voluntary
