After the meeting, the businessman’s lawyer Alexander Lysak told the media that they do not plan to pay bail even after the decision of the appellate court, since they “do not see any criminal offenses in the actions of the defendant.”
What Igor Kolomoisky is suspected of
On September 2, the SBU reported that Igor Kolomoisky was suspected under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:
- Art. 190 (fraud);
- Art. 209 (legalization/laundering of property obtained by criminal means).
According to investigators, during 2013-2020, the businessman legalized more than half a billion hryvnia by withdrawing funds abroad, “using the infrastructure of controlled banking institutions” (meaning Privatbank).
At the same time, the Shevchenkovsky District Court of Kyiv sent Kolomoisky into custody for two months with the possibility of posting bail in the amount of more than 500 million UAH. The businessman was ordered to hand over all documents and not communicate with witnesses.
On September 7, NABU detectives reported suspicions that Kolomoisky had misappropriated more than UAH 9.2 billion of PrivatBank funds as its ultimate beneficial owner. In addition to him, five more people were suspected – former bank employees. Kolomoisky's assets were seized for a period of 48 hours.
On September 15, the Shevchenkovsky District Court of Kyiv re-elected a preventive measure for the businessman in the case of misappropriation of UAH 5.8 billion. The bail amount was increased to more than UAH 3.8 billion.
Today an appeal against the decision of the court of first instance was considered. According to lawyers, the appeal to change the preventive measure will be considered in early October.
