In Kyiv, the Svyatoshinsky District Court completed its consideration of the case of executions on Instytutska Street on February 20, 2014. Then 48 people were killed, and another 80 were injured.

This was reported to journalists by the presiding judge Serhiy Dyachuk.

According to him, only the debate of the parties remained in this case and the sentence.

What happened on February 20

On February 20, 2014, the confrontation between activists and security forces continued in Kyiv. As a result of the clashes on Institutskaya Street, 48 people were killed and another 80 were injured.

Five exberkutists are accused of the executions that took place that day. We are talking about Oleg Yanishevsky, Pavel Abroskin, Sergey Tamtur, Sergey Zinchenko and Alexander Marinchenko.

All of them were exchanged for Ukrainian prisoners in 2019. However, Marinchenko and Tamtura decided to participate in the court hearings anyway.

Maidan cases: what is known

  • Crimes committed during the Revolution Advantages, conditionally combined into one great “Maidan case”. In total, the courts hear approximately 86 court cases against 176 people.
  • The main episodes of this case concern the dispersal of students on the night of November 30, 2013, the illegal actions of the security forces during the protests on December 1, attempts to disperse the Maidan on the night of December 11, as well as the killings of activists during January-February 2014.
  • Prosecutor General Irina Venediktova admitted in February 2022 that not all Maidan cases were solved, but they are working on it. Venediktova stressed that the victims and families of the Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred have been waiting for justice for years. At the same time, the deadlines for bringing to justice for crimes are also passing.
  • The Kyiv court chose the former chief guard Viktor Yanukovych as a measure of restraint in the form of detention.
  • The State Bureau of Investigation completed in February investigation against the former leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The case concerns the illegal supply of grenades from Russia to the security forces during the Maidan. As explained in the department, in early 2014, former officials illegally supplied from Russia to Ukraine: Drift-2 hand gas grenades, Zarya-2 flash-noise grenades, Fakel-S, Plamya-M and hand smoke grenades.
