The Council of Europe wanted to deal with the “information chaos” in the Ukrainian elections

The Council of Europe wanted to hire professionals to do the monitoring of the coverage of the regional elections in Ukraine to be held in October 2020. A tender was reviewed in RT.

In the framework of the project SE is going to implement tools “to combat the information chaos and propaganda”, which should ensure a transparent electoral process. The plan will provide 55 thousand euros, the work will attract 26 contractors.

“It is planned that the Ukrainian team (…) will work in close collaboration with the coordinator of the media monitoring, data analysts, lawyers and other experts,” the report says. The authors did not specify exactly who will be experts in media analysis. According to the document, the main aim is to inform the public “about the level of political diversity, election coverage in the Ukrainian media”.

July 23, entered into force the resolution of the Verkhovna Rada on the appointment of elections in local authorities on 25 October. This day will be the next elections of deputies of local councils and rural, settlement, mayors throughout Ukraine, in addition to uncontrolled Kiev territories of Donbass.

In early June the Council of Europe started to look for specialists “democratic governance”, to bring them for consultation in Ukraine. European specialists will hold consultations on political and legal issues of public administration.
