The Center for Political Affairs answered why Belarus transferred troops to the border with Ukraine Anzhelika Galesevich

The day before, Belarus transferred troops to four areas on the border with Ukraine, and at the end of December, a Russian military aircraft Il-76 arrived there. Self-proclaimed President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko is creating a spectacle to increase turnout at the upcoming “elections”.

The head of the Center for Countering Disinformation under the National Security and Defense Council Andrei Kovalenko told Channel 24 about this, noting that this is exclusively an element of the pre-election show. In fact, no threat from the territory of Belarus has been recorded yet. But if there are any attempts to storm, the Defense Forces have the resources to repel the attack.

Lukashenko is preparing for the elections

According to Kovalenko, everything is being done to increase the turnout at the upcoming so-called elections in Belarus. If it is high, Alexander Lukashenko will say that “the elections were legitimate.”

That is, most of all in such elections without a choice, dictators fear low turnout. This will determine how even those same Chinese partners, who are now actually the main investors in the Belarusian economy, will look at Lukashenko, he emphasized.

Lukashenko is trying to scare part of the electorate with a threat from Ukraine. He claims, they say, “let it be like in Belarus, than such democracy as in Ukraine.” He also says that Kyiv is trying to drag Minsk into a war. Under all this, he creates a spectacle – the transfer of troops to the Ukrainian borders. According to Kovalenko, this is exclusively an element of the election show.

The Defense Forces have the resources to repel the attack

The head of the CPI explained that Ukraine has all the necessary resources to repel any threat from Belarus, but there is no need to worry now. Lukashenko is only creating a backdrop to increase turnout.

As of now, there is no military threat; no strike groups have been created. In fact, there are not enough resources to consider that the Belarusian army is preparing to storm the border, noted Andrei Kovalenko.

At the same time, former SBU employee Ivan Stupak believes that Belarus transferred troops to the border with Ukraine in order to force the Ukrainian command to withdraw troops from the Kursk region to strengthen the northern positions.
