In the summer of 2023, the Bulgarian parliament approved the provision of additional military-technical support to Ukraine. Subsequently, the Bulgarian and Ukrainian Ministries of Defense signed an agreement to supply armored personnel carriers to the Defense Forces.

The Bulgarian Parliament has ratified an agreement adopted by two defense departments on the supply of armored personnel carriers to Ukraine. This happened on Wednesday, November 22.

Who voted “for” and “against”

According to local media, this agreement was supported by 152 people. 57 parliamentarians opposed its ratification. There were no abstentions among parliamentarians.

The transfer of the armored personnel carrier to Ukraine was supported by representatives of 4 parties: GERB-ODF, “We continue changes – Democratic Bulgaria”, ITN, “Movement for Rights and Freedoms”. Two political forces with pro-Russian views voted against this, namely Revival and the Bulgarian Socialist Party.

What will Ukraine get?

According to Novs, Bulgaria will transfer to Ukraine 100 old armored personnel carriers with existing weapons, as well as spare parts for servicing this equipment. The armored personnel carriers were purchased decades ago, when this country was still under communist rule.

By the way, our state will receive this equipment for free. For the first time since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Sofia is transferring heavy equipment to the Defense Forces officially and without intermediaries.
