Ukraine asks for an explanation why the mention of cloud services was removed from the 6th sanctions package/Channel 24 collage
In the edited version of the message about the 6th package of sanctions against Russia, the clause on blocking EU cloud services for Russia has disappeared. This outraged the representatives of Ukraine.
The first to react to the unpleasant incident was Mikhail Podolyak, adviser to the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine. Subsequently, the speaker of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Oleg Nikolenko also commented, Channel 24 informs.
Ukrainian representatives demand clarification from the EU
In his tweet, Mikhail Podolyak noted that the decision to block cloud services in Russia was indeed included in the 6th package of sanctions, which was approved on June 2.
First, the EU Council announces blocking for Russia cloud services of the European Union in the 6th package of sanctions. Then he edits messages, deleting references to cloud technologies from there,โ Podolyak wrote.
He stressed that no explanations were received from EU officials. The adviser to the head of the OP addressed the EU representatives with a reminder, which is now pursuing the goals of the entire civilized world.
“We must increase the sanctions pressure. Do not weaken it,” Podolyak stressed.
A similar comment was shared by the speaker of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Oleg Nikolenko. According to him, the European side did publicly announce the inclusion of a ban on the provision of cloud services in the sixth sanctions package. However, these technologies did not make it into the final solution.
“We have already turned to our European partners for clarification,” he said.
Like his colleague, Nikolenko stressed that the position of the Ukrainian side is clear: The European Union must increase sanctions pressure on Russia so that the price for its aggression against Ukraine is as high as possible.
Recall that on March 10, users from Russia missed the opportunity to pay for the work of Google One cloud storage. Then the Google Pay payment system suspended work for Russian users. According to specialized publications, the exit from the aggressor country of Google and Amazon has led to an increase in the load on internal cloud storage. As a result, in about 2 months their virtual data storage models will be completely full.
