The greatest breakthrough of the Ukrainian Armed Forces during this counteroffensive is yet to come. Ukrainian defenders must first liberate the city of Tokmak (Zaporozhye region).
This was stated by Brigadier General, commander of the Tavria operational-strategic group of troops Alexander Tarnavsky in an interview with CNN.
– I believe yes (there will be a big breakthrough, —Ed.). I think this will happen after Tokmak. Now they (Russian troops –Ed.) rely on the depth of their defense line there, – noted Tarnavsky.
Despite the so-called Surovikin line – a system of defensive fortifications in the south of Ukraine, the big problem, according to the general, is road intersections, forest belts and minefields between forest belts.
Now they are looking
As Tarnavsky explained, now there is quite “accurate and competent” Small enemy defense groups are located. But the actions of our military forces the invaders to “slowly retreat when they encounter our assault groups.”
The general added that for the counteroffensive to be successful, Ukrainian troops need to at least reach the city of Tokmak.< /p>
– Tokmok is a minimum goal. The common goal is to reach our state borders, — Tarnavsky emphasized.
Ukraine’s long-term goal on the southern front is to destroy the “land corridor” running from the temporarily occupied Crimea through the occupied territories in the South and to Russia.
